Welcome message from the Campus Senior Director, Ms Sharon Masiza

A warm and hearty welcome to our Missionvale Campus – the campus where in service of society is a way of life! My name is Sharon Masiza, and I am the Senior Director of this spirited campus.

Our campus is nestled along Johnson Road in the heart of Missionvale and boasts a prime location near vibrant communities like Zwide and New Brighton. Perfectly positioned on the main route connecting Gqeberha (formerly Port Elizabeth) and Kariega (formerly Uitenhage), it sits in a dynamic growth hub recognized by the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality.

Missionvale Campus is home to South Africa’s 10th Medical School, the Emergency Medical Care and Nursing programmes of the Faculty of Health Sciences. Additionally, selected programmes of Faculties of Education (Foundation Phase and Honours) and Faculty of Law (HCert Criminal Justice and Diploma in Law Enforcement) are also offered on our campus. 

As one of the seven campuses of Nelson Mandela University, we subscribe to our university’s Vision 2030 strategic commitments of enhancing our overall student experience by offering world-class facilities. To that end, we have a well-equipped library, are ICT-enabled lecture venues, and offer beautiful and functional campus spaces that can be enjoyed by our student community. 

Missionvale campus prides itself on being people-centred and socially responsive. Our campus-based community engagement entities strongly demonstrate this commitment. Our Law Clinic, Community Psychology Clinic, STEM in Action programme, and Centre for the Community School have positively contributed to the lives of local communities for over a long period of time. We have also gradually increased our community engagement portfolio by partnering with local nongovernmental organizations, local government, industry and civic structures. We welcome development and innovation and are looking to grow our footprint in healthcare, education, adaptive agriculture and small-scale food production, and medicinal plant growing.
